Eimear McGeown: Festival of Flutes 2024

We are delighted to have Eimear McGeown performa as part of "Festival of Flutes' 2024. 

Eimear has steadily built a reputation as being one of the world's most versatile exponents of both the classical and Irish flute. She has appeared as a soloist throughout the USA, South America, South Korea, Japan, China, The Philippines, Russia and Europe. Three of her most notable solo performances have been on BBC's Last Night of the Proms, a premiere concerto in Library of Congress, Washington D.C. and in Carnegie Hall, New York.

Eimear is a unique artist with her effortless switch between styles and instruments. On classical flute, she has received various awards including the TCM Silver Medal Award from Trinity College of Music, Camerata Ireland Young Musician of the Year and on the Irish flute, she was All Ireland champion twice. She released her debut album 'Inis', launching it at the Irish Embassy in London hosted by Ambassador Adrian O'Neill. It is a genre breaking album, mixing Irish traditional, classical, pop and original compositions with filmic arrangements. In recognition of her achievements in the Performing Arts, Eimear received an invitation by Her Majesty the Queen to attend a Royal Reception at Buckingham Palace.

Eimear has recorded with various artists on albums for Decca, Universal and Chandos Record labels and played on BBC Radio, Classic FM and RTE Lyric FM. She recently recorded for an American PBS TV special for composer/pianist Tim Janis' new album and performed with him in her Carnegie Hall Debut in December. She has recorded with pianist Barry Douglas on two of his Celtic albums which feature several of her own compositions and also performed them together with Camerata Ireland in the Kennedy Center, Washington DC. Both as a classical and traditional Irish flautist, she has performed for Presidents Bill Clinton, Mary Robinson, Mary McAleese, and King Charles.

Her diverse credits include recording at the Abbey Road Studios, for the World's largest video game, ‘Runescape’ with over 200 million players and in Lord of the Rings in the West End, London. Featured soloist for the World SciFi Convention Concert, Eimear performed her own compositions from her album with the Worldcon Philharmonic Orchestra and also as soloist with the experimental jazz ensemble, Surge Orchestra. She performed at the Sori International Music Festival in South Korea with the Irish Memory Orchestra and as a featured soloist with the international choral group, 'Libera' in Tokyo’s Opera City Concert Hall. Eimear is involved in the Pop music scene and has played support for Ed Sheeran, with Jennifer Hudson on the final of TV show 'The Voice' and on the National Television Awards. She also played with the rock band 'Amsterdam' at the Glastonbury Festival, and played support to The Pogues in the Echo Arena, Liverpool.
